A member of Hirscher’s top-ranked commercial real estate practice, Joe’s practice focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including leasing, acquisition, development and finance. Drawing upon his background as inside counsel, he also assists clients with a broad range of legal matters related to property management.
Prior to joining Hirschler, Joe served in the in-house counsel role at multiple companies across several industry groups. Notably, Joe served for three years as general counsel for ParkLand Ventures, Inc., a Markel Ventures company and national leader in commercial property acquisition and management.
Throughout his career, Joe has helped implement innovative and cost-saving approaches to legal support, project management and internal operations.
As general counsel of ParkLand Ventures, Inc., Joe:
Negotiated and closed numerous commercial property transactions, with purchases totaling more than $40M in company assets.
Assisted in the negotiation of property financing, including complex refinancing of high-value property portfolios.
Negotiated resolution of all property ownership, development, compliance and land use matters, both public and private.

Joe is dedicated to enriching the wellbeing and culture of his community. The first step is getting to know the people, territory and relevant issues by going out and experiencing first-hand your immediate and greater communities. Joe enjoys many pursuits of purposeful engagement with his immediate and universal community. Most of all, Joe enjoys jumping outside his comfort zone to experience new things and broaden his understanding.
He serves on the Junior Board of the Historic Richmond Foundation. Historic Richmond is a 501(c)3 non-profit that works to encourage preservation, rehabilitation and revitalization in the city. Through this position on the Junior Board, Joe has organized and participated in various community service, educational and fund-raising events. In his free time, he enjoys touring historic sites and landmarks and talking with the groups or individuals responsible for their preservation. Joe is currently completing the restoration of an 1870s townhome in Richmond‘s Church Hill Historic District.
Joe also enjoys the outdoors, and can be found outside enjoying nature during any of Virginia‘s three seasons. Joe attends many outdoor music events at venues in Richmond and beyond. He takes advantage of proximity to the James River, often biking the Capital Trail or jogging the trails of the James River Park System. Joe is an Eagle Scout and enjoys weekend backpacking trips to hike the sections of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia and North Carolina. He also participates in amateur sailing and golf leagues during the Summer months. Joe’s dog, Peter, appreciates long weekend walks through Richmond’s many beautiful neighborhoods and parks.
Family is a significant part of Joe’s life. Despite their being spread out across the East Coast, Joe is always close to his family in some way. The Stiles have gotten used to long road trips over the years. Joe often makes weekend car, train or plane trips to Stone Harbor, NJ, Philadelphia, Connecticut or Raleigh to spend time with family.
