Marshall is a partner in the firm's real estate section where he focuses his work on helping clients acquire, finance, develop and lease commercial real estate projects. Marshall has developed significant experience assisting clients with commercial, residential and mixed use condominium and planned unit development projects and the structuring and drafting of complex integrated project documents for these developments. His work with national and regional homebuilders and developers over the years enables him to bring a deep understanding of industry requirements and the ability to advise clients of potential pitfalls to be avoided.
Marshall also works with clients in connection with the financing of their projects. He has successfully assisted clients in the closing of construction loans (including HUD 221(d)(4) construction loans for multifamily and assisted living projects), Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac refinancings, VHDA loan programs, and traditional bank loans. Marshall works regularly with clients utilizing Low Income Housing Tax Credits and other bridge loan products for the financing of their projects.
Owners and operators also retain Marshall to assist them with the leasing of their projects. Utilizing years of experience and an understanding of the client’s needs, Marshall guides his clients from letter of intent to a signed lease, an efficient and well-organized process.
Marshall’s experience also includes:
- Closing multiple HUD 221(d)(4) construction loans for multifamily projects.
- Structuring multifamily development projects consisting of LIHTC, bridge loan financing, VHDA construction to permanent financing.
- Representing owners of office and retail projects with leasing, subleasing, and lease default issues.
- Assisting in the development of numerous residential condominium projects, including registration with the Common Interest Community Board and recordation of all project documents.

Outside of the office, Marshall enjoys playing soccer and hiking the Appalachian Trail. He hopes to one day be able to hike the entire length of the AT in Virginia (he’ll leave the full thru-hike to those that are younger, fitter, and less sane).
