Hirschler is pleased to welcome Zachary D. Cohen as a Richmond-based partner in the firm’s Corporate and Business Services and Intellectual Property & Technology practice groups. Cohen is a seasoned business attorney who helps companies, non-profits, and individuals navigate complex commercial transactions and high-stakes intellectual property matters. His practice bridges the gap between proactive protection of intellectual property rights and determined dispute resolution.

“We're excited for Zac to join as part of our team helping clients navigate today's increasingly complex business and intellectual property challenges, and we know his addition will strengthen our ability to deliver the kind of proactive, strategic counsel that sets Hirschler apart,” said Courtney Moates Paulk, president of Hirschler. “His experience handling high-profile IP and trade secret disputes, paired with his deep transactional expertise, gives our clients a true full-service advantage.”

On the transactional side, Cohen serves as a trusted advisor for brand management, domestic and international trademark registration, and complex IP licensing. He routinely structures, drafts, and negotiates vital business agreements, from master service agreements (MSAs) and vendor contracts to entertainment and franchise agreements. He also ensures clients stay ahead of the curve on fast-evolving data privacy, security, and consumer protection laws (including Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and the Federal Trade Commission’s Telemarketing Sales Rule.)

Cohen has also successfully handled high-profile cases involving Lanham Act claims, trade secret theft, breach of contract, and right-of-publicity claims – matters that have frequently drawn coverage from major media outlets like The New York TimesRolling Stone, and The Washington Post.

In the legal community, Cohen is a member of the Richmond Bar Association and the Virginia Bar Association’s IP & IT Law Section Council, and he has served as a Board Member for the Greater Richmond Intellectual Property Law Association.

Cohen obtained his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia.
