In an article published by ALM’s Mid-Market Pro on January 3, 2023 exploring talent opportunities for midsize firms in 2023, Courtney Paulk shared insight on how middle-market law might succeed in recruiting excellent talent in the new year.
In monitoring the rise of associate salary hikes in recent years, particularly at the nation’s largest firms, Paulk noted that billing rates would follow with a commensurate increase at some point. “Some large firms are looking at up to a 20% increase in rates,” she said. “Significant rate pressure by larger firms may create opportunities for midsize firms like ours that can provide high-level legal counsel often sought from our larger counterparts, but at a much greater value, which is ultimately an opportunity for attorneys interested in joining our firms.”
