In an article published by The Deal on September 18, 2015, James Van Horn provides insight into whether individual investors should use alternative investment options to aid in their retirement. Van Horn discusses accredited investor standards and how they are determined. "When you're talking about the perceived risk of a private offering, you have to ask if the dollar threshold is a great way to determine if an individual is sophisticated enough,” Van Horn explained. There is even question as to whether the issuers who are trying to raise capital are interested in seeing the strictures loosened significantly. “I don’t think most issuers are even looking for the retail investor,” Van Horn discussed further. Given the transparency and communications requirements that would probably be implemented, “The issuer has to ask, ‘Is this even worth it?’” For the full article, subscribers may click here.
