In an article published on May 8, 2017 by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), Andy Sherrod offers insight to the waiting periods for vacation accruals by stating that employers may opt for a longer waiting period since, “as a practical matter, employers want to incentivize new employees to focus on acclimating to the company and learning the competencies of the new position, rather than immediately taking time off.” Still, he adds, “A reason that employers might choose a shorter waiting period would be for recruitment or retention purposes. Paid time off is attractive to individuals who are interested in work/life balance and want flexibility right away.” For the full article, you may click here.
